Notes

Hello,

This is a personal translation project for the Nora to Toki no Koubou: Kiri no Mori no Majo game, I've been working on it for a few weeks and I wanted to share a demo (alpha) version with you. The project has reached a fully playable beta. If things go right, it will be released in early 2022.
As of April 3 2022, the translation has been released, you can find a link to the latest fully playable patch in the Gitlab repo Releases section.

READ THE UPDATES SECTION BELOW AND THE THREADMARKS FOR A MORE IN-DEPTH DESCRIPTION.

As a disclaimer I have to mention that this is my first attempt to translate a game, I'm not a romhacker and I'm not a graphic artist. And also you should know that my level of Japanese is very basic, for that reason your feedback is more than welcome.

Also I should mention that none of the terminology is final and changes may be made in future releases.
If you want to know more about what has been translated you can visit the link in the changelog section. Keep in mind that this is an alpha release.

Game description
Gamespot said:
The title's aesthetics are filled to the brim with saccharine cuteness and bright colors, thanks to the character art direction of Yuji Himukai, who last contributed to Etrian Odyssey. The heroine herself is a cute googly-eyed blond girl who displays a wide variety of sugar-filled expressions when she speaks. We really wouldn't be surprised if Atlus were to bundle the game with either a plush doll or Nendoroid figurine of Nora, seeing as the publisher loves to add enticing incentives to its retail products.

Even the story is filled with all sorts of good-natured cliches: Nora has to prove her innocence to a village by helping it out with different sorts of tasks while time not giving away her identity as a time-bending artisan. It's a clear case of misunderstanding, as she's mistaken for the legendary witch Vierra, who lives in a misty forest nearby the village. Helping her on her quest to clear her name are weaponsmith Elsie Quin, bipolar mercenary Karuna Astarra, hot-blooded adventurer Lutz Alenius, and gentle-hearted girl Mellow whose character design may be inspired by Sega's vocaloid idol Hatsune Miku. [2011]

RPGFan said:
Nora, the main character who's mistaken for a witch, has a knack for time manipulation. By turning time backwards or forwards, she can change an item, for example, a flower to a seed, or to a dead, dried flower. She can also combine materials to make new items, and decompose them into multiple items. She uses four different types of Chrono Solution to control time. [2011]

UPDATES

October 8, 2022: A new REVISION has been released. It removes the hardcoded AP-fix to prevent problems with certain flashcarts. It also resolves a bug that freezes the game on real hardware.

September 29, 2022: A new UPDATE has been released. This version fixes some names inconsistently named in the previous version. Also it fixes those characters descriptions whose text overflowed the screen. Certain strings that weren't translated in the previous version due to a broken file had been translated. Also, some buttons and tutorial screens had been revised or retranslated.

April 3, 2022: Corrections are finished, a couple terms had been modified here and there. Check the project commits for a more detailed description. Translation has been released.

February 4, 2022:The last textures had been translated and inserted; items descriptions in battle and locations descriptions had been shortened to fit on screen; general modifications to the translated scripts; minimal modification to the font.
This post update contains some screenshots.

December 4, 2021: Fixes and modifications to common scripts (chara_book, item_book, monster_book) and some event script files. For a more extensive description, read this post update.

June 4, 2021: Text translations reached 100% thanks to user gerb, a lot more graphical translations by me (around 90-95% in total). For a more extensive description, read this post update.

February 5, 2021: Buttons translated and inserted. A few event scripts translated and many common scripts inserted (not all). For a more extensive description, read this post update.

Not to sound like Monty Python, but I'm with the villagers on this one. Witches bend the laws of physics; Nora is altering time and practicing what sounds like alchemy. I'm not saying she's the witch, I'm just saying she's a witch.

Keeping an eye on this.

I've played the Japanese original. The gameplay cycle is very similar to Atelier Annie, but with some extras, especially pets! The colour palette feels softer/cosier too. It's a cute game.

Thank you, I'll keep it in mind. Someone with a more advanced level of Japanese would speed up the translation process by a lot.

I recommend posting a help-wanted ad on Romhacking.net, it has a decent amount of exposure/traffic.

http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?board=15.0

I'm not actively looking for a translator. But if someone were to be enough interested in helping to translate this particular game as to contact me, then I'd be interested in their help. I already opened a thread in the RHDN Personal Projects section, but I'd keep in mind your suggestion to post in the Help Wanted section, thanks.

Since I don't know the language, I have nothing to offer but encouragement...but I have lots of that! Good luck and keep at it...I know I for one would be hugely interested in being able to play this title in English!

Hi everyone, this is a quick update to announce the state of the project. I must mention that through the past year the project didn't progress very much, due to several circumstances I wasn't actively working in the project, IRL matters. But my translator partner translated a lot of the project files, mostly all of the non-story event scripts have been translated and inserted.
Regarding the story scripts, the bad thing is that not much progress had been made in terms of quantity, the good thing is that all of the story scripts are inserted following the same process, this means that these can be inserted into the game right after they're translated.
Also, I managed to translate/edit many more of the graphic assets, including a few problematic ones; the rest of the yet untranslated assets had been identified in their majority, except a couple sign board images. I should also mention that among those untranslated images there are several graphics heavily artistic (?), most of them contain places names and board signs, like this. I'd try to get some help to edit these images and try to mimic the font used, as this goes beyond my images editor amateurish level.

This list includes most of the new advancements:

Graphics

  • All the main menu buttons
  • Save/Load screen
  • Shopkeeper menus and windows
  • 51/67 character name labels
  • Item icons have been modified
  • Extras section labels and windows
  • Some of the Requests windows and labels have been modified
  • Garden harvest/reap floating buttons
  • Forest touch buttons (Go Home, Collect more, To Hinterlands)

Awesome update!
I wanted to help for those pixel arts but.. typography is not my specialty.
If there is anything graphical (non-font) need to be done, may be I can do it.

*I have tried to edit that part you are refering to, and I failed lol.

Thanks!
Don't worry about it, thank you for trying to help .
Well, I think all the graphics yet to edit have some degree of font (not pixel art as the one I linked to, just normal fonts or small fonts).

At the moment I can't remember if there are any graphics that I could ask you for help with, but if you were to identify any element in the screenshots that you might like to retouch, just leave a message and we can discuss it. For example, I still don't know/ haven't done my research on how to insert a translation team logo screen, yet I have in mind to design one, your help might come in handy with that.
Cheers

My gf and I have always wanted to play this game (specially her, she's been waiting for almost ten years LOL).
I couldn't believe when I googled it's name today and found this thread.
Thanks so much for the translation, really looking forward to it!

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha

@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
